Spring of Hope Uganda

Enabling Ugandan Communities to Help Children with Disabilities

counselor training

Community Outreach
Community Leaders
This year we trained counselors who then reached out to parents.  At the training we shared about the causes of disabilities, that children need to be treated with care and love, and that children with disabilities have value and can learn.  In order to change society, it is important to train leaders of the community. The community leaders are the people who have keys to opening up opportunities for people with disabilities within the society.

Pastors
We are in the process of training and empowering pastors as it relates to people with disabilities.  The hope is to give pastors the knowledge and skills so that they can then lead the church to reach out to people with disabilities.  Reaching out may entail meeting basic physical needs, emotional needs, or spiritual needs.  This training is just getting started, and we hope to conduct future trainings.  Spring of Hope meets numerous needs of Kangulumira Sub county, however we cannot meet all the needs.  By working together with pastors, we hope to reach out and meet more of the needs of the community as it relates to disability. We believe it is important to reach all the needs of our children and families. By training the pastors we are opening up the doors for spiritual growth of people with disabilities. Previously access to church and the gospel has been closed. Our desire is to see that through sensitizing pastors the door for the gospel can open up and people can receive the word of God.
